Building the P-51 Mustang Pedal Plane, Step 11: Paint Prep & Assembling the Control System
In this step I start priming the airplane for paint and begin some of the painting. While it was an extra step, I chose to paint the interior a green color to try and mimic the zinc chromate used on aircraft to prevent rusting. I also started with a paint brush rather than spray paint as I thought it would be easier, but it wasn’t. I ultimately switched to the Rust-Oleum spray paint for everything on the exterior and was pleasantly surprised at how well it worked. I contemplated painting the exterior with a light gray, but ultimately (not recorded in any videos) used the recommended “aluminum XO-10” and it has far exceeded my expectations.
In the second half of these Step 11 playlist videos I assemble the control system. I provide a few tips in the videos, in which some bolts need to be placed prior to tightening some of the screws. I had to unscrew and redo. Hopefully the tips save you a little time.
